What to Do with Leftover Ham

If you're anything like me, you probably make ham several times for the holidays. And, if you do, you know that means a ton of leftovers every time!

As much as my family and I love ham, just heating up the leftovers doesn't cut it after the first plate. The best thing to do with leftover ham is to use it to make new ham dishes!

But if you're not sure what to do with leftover ham, you might think it's tricky to come up with new recipes to make with it, or wind up making the same dish over and over again every year. That's where my list of recipes using leftover ham really shines!

Give one (or two!) of these meals with ham a try, and I guarantee it will change the way you use your leftovers.

Meals with Ham Tips

  • Store ham in the freezer in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 1-2 months and simply take what you need out when you're ready to cook! Ham slices are incredibly easy to thaw, so this is a great way to extend the life of your leftover ham.
  • Don't get rid of that bone! Ham bone recipes are a total game-changer. You can use a ham bone to make a homemade bone broth for soups that will change the way you make soup!
  • There are other easy ways to use leftover ham, too. Try mixing it into fried rice, stir-fry, an omelette, quiche, macaroni and cheese, or diced in a chef's salad. You will never run out of leftover ham ideas if you get creative with what to pair it with!

Leftover Ham Ideas FAQs

How long does cooked ham last in the fridge?

Leftover ham lasts for about 3-5 days in the refrigerator when stored properly in an airtight container. If you need it to last longer, transfer it to a freezer-safe container and store in the freezer for 1-2 months.

Do you let ham cool before putting in fridge?

Do not let ham sit out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours. It can be placed in the refrigerator even if it's still warm, so refrigerate it when you're done!
